This is from a recipe I prepared one Samhain, some years ago. It's a 'seat of your pants' recipe, as well... mojo liked it, his Dad thought it sucked...

for a small batch, you will need:

a can of unseasoned Pumpkin (NOT pie filling!), a quart or therabouts
a medium Onion, chopped
enough bacon drippings to saute the above in
some dried Chipotle peppers, depending on your taste buds -- Chipotle are smoked Jalapeno, IMHO not all that hot, but very flavorful. You want to have these scissored into rings -- mise en place-- here, a 'handful' of scissored rings Smile
Chicken stock (broth) to dilute
Heavy Cream...
A Tablespoon or 3 of ground Cumin to give it a warm, earthy flavor
(the reason I add heavy cream to a lot of my recipes is *not* to give y'all a heart attack, but the fat content really *does* boost the flavor)

or a can of Evaporated Milk, and perhaps a Tablespoon or so of Butter Smile

Prep:

Carmelize the onions in the bacon drippings,
then add the stock and Pumpkin
then the Chipotle

At this point, we want the soup to be *thin,* as we want the peppers to rehydrate and flavor the soup while it reduces, the goal is to bring it past the consistency of a thick Split Pea Soup, add the Cream / Evaporated Milk to thin it out a little, and shut off the heat. Stir in the Cumin and serve.
